Best Places to People-Watch in Paris
This might be another stalker-ish themed post… But trust me, if you want to be “in” on the Parisian local scene, then follow this guide to the best areas to people-watch:
- The Seine
During the daytime at les Paris Plages or in the evenings dancing on the Quais of the Seine, you will find a constant local scene to spy on real Parisians and even make some friends. Unusual pro-tip: if you carry a lighter on you it will be an easy way to make friends with the Parisians, who smoke cigarette after cigarette, as seen in our blog post, Tabac? What’s That?.
At République, you will find yourself in the center of plenty of local Parisians’ playground, as there is a made-up skatepark in the central mall where you can also find entrances to the République metro station. With plenty of shops and restaurants, you will be able to pause from a distance and take in the scene, also a location from the film “Paris, Je T’aime,” as mentioned in our Iconic Film Spots in Paris blog post.
At the big department stores, as mentioned in another blog post, you will find yourself shopping among the local Parisians, making this a prime opportunity to take in the current fashion trends and hear some excited French as they shop around.
- The Metro
As seen in Ride the Metro like a Parisian, you will come face to face with the local scene in the best-dressed to the homeless Parisians when you take a ride on the metro. The beauty of Paris is the accessibility of its public transport to everyone in the city. There is no better place to be equal with the city dwellers than to ride public transport with them.
- The Park
There’s nothing more Parisian than picnicking. Nothing! At any park, notably Buttes Chaumont, Jardins du Luxembourg, and Les Tuileries, you can find Parisian families settling down in the grass to enjoy a picnic while taking in the gorgeous view.
