This walking tour is a journey through Picasso’s life in Barcelona, where he lived starting at the young age of 14.

The first stop on our Picasso tour is outside the Els Quatre Gats Restaurant, a Modernist building that was a tavern when Picasso lived in Barcelona. It was also a gathering spot for artists, the very first place he exhibited his genius.

We’ll continue to the Sala Parès, once a paint shop, now a gallery. Picasso and other Barcelonian artists once exhibited their paintings here. We may even step inside to see how it’s changed over the years!

Our next stop is at Carrer d’Avinyó 44, where Picasso frequented the brothel once located there. The women who worked there inspired his famous piece, Les Demoiselles d’Avinyó, now one of the finest examples of his Cubists works.

As the walking tour comes to a close, we’ll pass by La Llotja, a historical building that once hosted the Fine Arts Academy where Picasso studied as a teenager. It’s still used today as a cultural center.

It’s now time to finish your Picasso walking tour. This brings us to the picturesque Carrer Montcada, a medieval street at the entrance of Picasso Museum (or Museu Picasso de Barcelona in Catalan). Your guide will give you your skip-the-line ticket and tell you what to look for during your self-guided visit to the museum. Here, you’ll discover the special relationship Picasso had with Barcelona and see how the city changed and shaped his art.

Reviews

The tour brought Picasso’s story to life in a vivid and humorous way. It gave a sense of what kind of person Picasso was, and how he was shaped by key events in his life that took place here in Barcelona, on streets and in cafes that we could see with our own eyes.

Lovely, friendly and informative stroll through the beautiful streets of Barcelona
We walked through parts of the Gothic Quarter and passed places that were relevant to Picasso's life in Barcelona and then ended the tour at the Picasso Museum. Along the tour, Christina would point out places to eat and drink. Worth the money and the time.

Walk in Picasso’s shoes
Valentina was so energetic and made the walk an enjoyable one. She explained Picasso’s life and art in simple terms and it was easy to understand. Gave a clearer context before visiting the museum and helped to appreciate Picasso’s pieces more. Love that there’s no need to queue for the ticket to the museum too.

Painted a picture
Eoghan was a wonderful guide, he essentially “painted a picture” of the early days and influences on the young Picasso. Eoghan’s knowledge of the subject and his enthusiasm, along with his eloquent story telling prepared us masterfully for the finale of our tour, the Picasso museum. We enjoyed the tour immensely, and appreciated all the tips on places to eat. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend
We had a great time on our ExperienceFirst tour! We were able to see and learn about aspects of Picasso’s life and art that made the museum an even more incredible experience. Our tour guide, Carlos, was very kind, knowledgeable, funny, and offered up local recommendations for restaurants and tapas. Great company, great customer service. Highly recommend.
