Laurie Lyons-Makaimoku

Laurie moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. Naturally, she quickly fell in love with the funky college town and made a home there. From the perspective of a community member and journalist, she watched the dining scene explode, the music scene change dramatically, and the skyline transform completely. After 20 years, Laurie began looking for a change of pace and moved to Hawai‘i and started a family. As a Texpat she frequently returns to visit friends and colleagues, now seeing Austin through the eyes of a parent and a visitor.
