LA is one of the greatest food cities on Earth, and no part of LA has a more thriving food scene than Downtown Los Angeles. In 2 hours, your expert guide will take you back in time with this exceptional walking tour of DTLA. Fill your ears with amazing stories and local history while you fill your stomach with awesome food! This tour visits several of LA’s coolest historical sights and food halls, so it is perfect for history buffs and foodies!
We will have 2 different food stops where you will have time to purchase recommended food items. Food cost is at your own expense. $20-25 per person is recommended.
It does not. We start at The Spring Arcade Building and end at Grand Park. You are welcome to purchase a metro ticket (with the help of your guide) at the station for your ride back, or you can continue your journey onward from there.
It is important to arrive at the tour starting location at least 10-15 minutes prior to the start time, as we do start the tour promptly. It would be unfair for the others if we need to wait for those that are late. We cannot guarantee you’ll be able to find your tour group if you are late.
You can cancel a tour up to 24 hours prior to your tour date without penalty and receive a full refund. Also prior to 24 hours of your tour date, you can reschedule your tour without penalty. Tour spots are limited.
We only cancel the tour during extreme weather conditions. Otherwise the tour goes on. Please check the weather report and be prepared.
Tips are always appreciated by our guides, but never expected. They should be given if you believe your guide did an outstanding job, and further, if you as an individual want to demonstrate your appreciation to the guide for that job well done.
Meet your guide in one of the most vibrant new restaurant hotspots in LA - The Spring Arcade Building. No other building so perfectly illustrates how quickly downtown Los Angeles is changing. In just over a year the building has become a go-to location for new restaurants downtown. Your expert guide will walk you through the building, pointing out several options and then you will have some time to try the restaurants here, so come hungry!
Please note that our food tour is a little different. Other companies charge more and include small bites throughout, but we think there is a better way! We charge less and have our guests bring an additional $20 - $25 each to buy food throughout the tour. This lets you save on the tour ticket and gives you control of what you get to try. If your guide suggests chorizo tacos or vegan ramen and you want currywurst or a wood fired pizza slice, go for it! Maybe you want all of it? Do that too, we don’t judge (and will also be stuffing our face)! And if you have dietary restrictions - don't worry, we got you - with so many options you’re guaranteed to not go hungry or feel left out, there is truly something for everyone!
After the first food stop we will visit several amazing historical locations and hear the lore behind each. These include The Last Bookstore and iconic Bradbury Building (500 Days of Summer, Blade Runner) to name a few. With all that walking and active listening a person sure can get hungry! Before we ride Angels Flight we will visit the holy grail of downtown food culture: The Grand Central Market!
Grand Central Market isn’t just one of LA’s most historic buildings, it is also one of its most exciting. This open air market is full of vendors selling everything from fancy peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to vegan ramen. Like in the Spring Arcade Building, your guide will give you tasty recommendations and then you will have time to explore the market, and more importantly, EAT!
“A perfect tour. A well-thought-out route that creates a vivid picture of how the downtown LA came to be what it is today.”
After filling up in the Grand Central Market, the history continues! A short ride up Angels Flight to Bunker Hill will get us to some of the city’s most treasured museums and architectural jewels. Come see where locals and travelers visit to experience world renowned symphonies and art in the notable institutions that line Grand Street. The Broad Museum, Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Music Pavilion and Grand Park all provide a perfect backdrop for a quick photo.
We conclude the tour in the Civic Center area of LA where you will learn about the various administrative departments that help bring order to this large and sprawling city! You will hear about local legends such as former Mayor Tom Bradley and retired police chief William Parker. Finally, admire our neoclassical / art deco City Hall building made famous in TV shows such as Dragnet. If you’re here on a weekday you should definitely take a visit up to the *free* observation deck on the top floor of City Hall after the tour. With 360 degree views of the LA skyline, it's the perfect way to take in the city and reflect on everything you just experienced. We hope you join us!
