{"id":37920,"date":"2025-09-30T15:46:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-30T15:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/blog\/?p=37920"},"modified":"2025-09-30T15:46:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-30T15:46:09","slug":"barcelona-olympics-sites-in-montjuic-5-places-you-have-to-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/blog\/barcelona-olympics-sites-in-montjuic-5-places-you-have-to-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"Barcelona Olympics Sites in Montju\u00efc: 5 Places You Have To Visit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In this blog, I\u2019ll share my recommendations on how to take advantage of an afternoon in Montjuic if you\u2019re a sports addict and you want to see as much as possible of those famous Barcelona Olympics Sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But first, here\u2019s a quick overview of when the Olympics came to Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A look back at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in 1992, Barcelona wasn&#8217;t the city we know today. Many areas weren&#8217;t as developed, and a lot of people lived in poverty in the many shanty houses built on the Barcelona seaside by the workers of the World&#8217;s Fairs (1888 and 1929).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Olympics gave a new shape to the city, and most of the changes were in Montjuic, the hub for sports in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s a list of what you can\u2019t miss if you go for a walk in Montjuic, and you want to see some really cool Olympics sites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. The stadium itself was actually designed for the 1929 World\u2019s Fair and it was also used for the Mediterranean Games in 1955, as the plaque outside the stadium reminds us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This huge building is now used for the biggest and most awaited concerts of the city such as those by Coldplay and Harry Styles!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. This arena, named after the Catalonia patron saint, is locals\u2019 favorite venue for concerts. In the area that connects the museum to the Olympic stadium, several footprints were added as part of the Olympic Walk of Fame. The plaques were made using the real footprint of Olympic athletes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just a couple of tips about the small details that the 1992 Olympics left here in Barcelona, but who knows? On your way down from the Mirador del Alcalde on our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/barcelona-tours\/montjuic-walking-tour\/\">Montjuic Walking Tour<\/a>, you\u2019ll pass by a unique restaurant called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saltsmontjuic.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Salts Montju\u00efc Terrassa Bar<\/a> \u2014 \u201csalts\u201d means \u201cjumps\u201d in Catalan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you remember the springboard diving during the Barcelona Olympics with that spectacular view of the city in the background (shown above), this is where it happened. Today, you can stop in for a sandwich or tapas along with wine or beer, and enjoy your meal overlooking the Olympic swimming pool and Barcelona itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if it\u2019s summer, I recommend going for a swim too. It\u2019s open to the public, and it&#8217;s owned by the city council so it\u2019s quite affordable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can check hours and prices on their <a href=\"https:\/\/guia.barcelona.cat\/es\/detall\/piscines-municipals-montjuic_92086000228.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Barcelona Olympics legacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you know that the Olympics legacy is everywhere around Montjuic, you just need to put your walking shoes on and go discover all these incredible locations.
