But this avenue has a totally different charm \u2014 and also a different story \u2014 that will enchant you, wherever you start your walk from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019m a local guide for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/barcelona-tours\/\">tours in Barcelona<\/a>, and it will be a pleasure to show you my personal walk down Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia. I\u2019ll be starting in the north and heading south. This avenue, developed in 1827, was originally created to connect Barcelona to the ancient town of Gr\u00e0cia, which was not part of the city until 1897, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/blog\/where-to-see-the-best-modernist-buildings-in-barcelona\/\">modernist architecture<\/a> was reaching its highest point.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a consequence, Passeig the Gr\u00e0cia became the heart of the Catalan bourgeoisie, who could afford nice modernist mansions designed by the most famous Catalan architects, even by Antoni Gaud\u00ed himself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Come along as we explore the many different things to do on the Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia in Barcelona.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Once the residence of the rich Robert Robert i Sur\u00eds, the Palau Robert is now home for many exhibitions you can visit for free!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the surprises aren\u2019t over. The exhibitions change depending on the time of year, so there\u2019s always something new to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guide tip: <\/strong>If you take a look behind the palace, it\u2019s highly likely you\u2019d find a photo exhibition in the back garden. Don\u2019t miss it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Inside, the king of Catalan modernism meant to sum up all the characteristics<strong> <\/strong>of his previous works, where nature was the star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you decide to enter la Pedrera and go up to the terrace, you\u2019ll feel like you\u2019re climbing a mountain and swimming in the sea at the same time. The \u201cwaves\u201d will take you to the beautiful rooftop. And the view is priceless! From here, you can see the center of Barcelona, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/blog\/a-complete-guide-for-visiting-the-sagrada-familia-in-barcelona\/\">Sagrada Familia<\/a> and even Tibidabo hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. So she went to the wedding holding an apple addressed \u201cTo the Most Beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No one knew who deserved the apple between Hera, Athena and Aphrodite, so Paris, a Trojan prince, decided to give it to Aphrodite, who had offered him the most beautiful woman on earth. And that\u2019s how (they say) the Trojan War started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, imagine that Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite are the three most famous houses of the block of the discord: Casa Amatller, Casa Batll\u00f3, in the picture above, and Casa LLe\u00f3 i Morera, in the picture below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which one would you give the apple to? Is it hard to decide?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barcelonians agree. They are made of wrought iron, the most commonly used material during that period. You\u2019ll find a starfish, seaweed and a snail fossil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Everyone can enter the gallery for free, but buying a piece of art is a tad pricier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Guide tip:<\/strong> You can find two more branches in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/blog\/10-places-to-visit-in-barcelonas-gothic-quarter\/\">Gothic Quarter<\/a>, plus in the entrance and in the garden of the Mandarin Oriental, a very luxurious hotel located in Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Taste Spanish food in El Nacional<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"EL NACIONAL BCN a vista de dron.  Disfruta de la mejor experiencia gastron\u00f3mica de Barcelona!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kyScz0tewlM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>On the left side of the art gallery, you\u2019ll come upon this huge restaurant that will leave you speechless. If you like a wide selection of delicious dishes, this is the place for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elnacionalbcn.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">El Nacional<\/a>, you\u2019ll find many different kinds of food and drink depending on where you decide to sit. In fact, the Comedia cinema, located in the corner between the Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia and the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, was first a private house&nbsp; \u2014&nbsp; called Palau Marcet&nbsp; \u2014&nbsp; and since 1941, a theatre for Spanish and international contemporary plays. In 1960, the Comedia Theater became a cinema where people still go today.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would you like to go, but you\u2019re afraid of ending up watching American movies dubbed in Spanish? Don\u2019t worry, this won\u2019t happen. In the Yelmo Cines Comedia, you can enjoy movies in their original language with subtitles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see near the Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you get away just a couple of blocks from Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia, there\u2019s much more to see nearby. Here are a few of my favorite places to visit. If you have time, you should definitely add them to your list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Alzueta Gallery<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A Contemporary Art Gallery, just behind the Seat House, where Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia meets the Avinguda Diagonal, one of the longest Barcelonian streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where: <\/strong>Carrer de S\u00e8neca 9<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fundaci\u00f3 Tapi\u00e8s<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>An entire modernist building dedicated to the Catalan artist Antoni Tapi\u00e8s, this foundation is part of the many buildings you can visit for free during the 48H Open House Barcelona at the end of October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Art hunt:<\/strong> There are a couple of other buildings in Barcelona with the same exposed bricks texture. It offers many exhibitions for a reasonable price. Be sure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museuegipci.com\/en\/the-collection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to check them out<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where: <\/strong>Carrer de Val\u00e8ncia 284<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Basilica of the Immaculate Conception<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the least known basilicas of Barcelona, this Gothic church is what is left of the ancient Convent of the Holy Mary of Jonqueres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I found it, I was really surprised, the inside is astonishing and totally underestimated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where: <\/strong>Carrer de Arag\u00f2 299<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Concepci\u00f3 Market<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This market was built in the late 19th century, during the golden period of Barcelonia\u2019s covered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.exp1.com\/barcelona-tours\/barcelona-markets-tour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">markets<\/a>. It stands out for its location \u2014 on the right side of the Eixample district \u2014 its entrance full of beautiful flowers and its roof made of ceramic pieces. Gaudi\u2019s echo again!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where: <\/strong>Carrer de Arag\u00f2 313-317<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Discovering the Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia and Beyond<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s so much to see along the lovely Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia. If you walk down this street following the route I suggested above, you\u2019ll end in Catalonia Square. This huge square was (and still is) the link between the old and the new Barcelona.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This square is located exactly in the middle between Passeig de Gr\u00e0cia, La Rambla and Portal del Angel, which leads you to the Gothic Quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Want to keep going?
