Construction began in the year 72 A.D. when Rome was ruled by the emperor Vespasian. You can\u2019t purchase anything to eat or drink inside the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill, or the Imperial Forums. There are a lot of places nearby, but most of them aren\u2019t great. The buffet has enough hot and cold options that you can call it dinner. Don\u2019t worry though, there is plenty of pasta, too. In the evening, stop by the stylish cocktail bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Join the crowd at Li Rioni<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This very popular place has the cliche checked tablecloths and is in view of the Colosseum, but <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/lirioni.it\" target=\"_blank\">Li Rioni<\/a> is busy and chaotic for a reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The menu here has a lot of choices, but I recommend ordering the thin and crispy Roman-style pizza. Don\u2019t miss out on starters like \u201csuppli\u201d (deep-fried, breaded rice with cheese) and the meat-stuffed Olive Ascolane.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Explore the local cuisine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/iclementini\/\" target=\"_blank\">I Clementinin<\/a> serves simple Roman food. Expect \u201ccacio e pepe,\u201d carbonara, and \u201cl&#8217;abbacchio a scottadito\u201d (grilled lamb chops) at fair prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget that vegetables are listed in a separate menu category (\u201ccontorni<em>.) <\/em>The desserts here are also all homemade.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dine on Km Zero and seasonal fare<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Book one of the sidewalk tables at this trattoria that is only two streets away from the Colosseum. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ilbocconcino.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Il Bocconcino<\/a> serves traditional Roman dishes and follows the Roman calendar of gnocchi on Thursdays and fish on Tuesdays and Fridays so make sure to ask about the daily specials.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grab a cold beer on a hot day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Head to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brewdog.com\/usa\/bars\/global\/brewdog-roma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BrewDog<\/a> after touring the ancient sites to quench your thirst. This Roman outpost of a Scottish brewery has a large selection of craft beers on tap.
